The Period of Nantou County Handicraft Research Class |
Because the development of domestic crafts was encouraged increasingly, Nantou County Government established “Nantou County Craft Research Class” in 1954. Five years later (1959), it was reorganized as “Nantou County Handicraft Research Institute”. Meanwhile, the Taiwan Provincial Government implemented a project to improve the quality and marketing of handicrafts in Taiwan. |
1973-98
The Period of Taiwan Provincial Handicraft Research Institute |
In July 1973, due to the department reconstruction of the Taiwan Provincial Government, the institute was renamed as “Taiwan Provincial Handicraft Research Institute,” which aimed to help craftsmen to improve the quality of their works and enhance their ability of marketing competence.

1999-2009 The Period of National Taiwan Craft Research Institute |

In July 1999, the Taiwan Provincial Government was reorganized and the institute was once again renamed as “National Taiwan Craft Research Institute,” an agency under the Council for Cultural Affairs. The Institute promotes Taiwan crafts, innovative design, and the development of the culture industry. |
2010-present

In 2010, The Institute was renamed as “National Taiwan Craft Research & Development Institute,”which continues promoting craft culture and assisting the development of craft industry in Taiwan. |
