예로부터 인간들에게 자연은 끊임없는 동경과 호기심의 대상으로서 풍부한 의미를 부여하여 왔다. 인간은 태초부터 아무런 대가없이 자연이 가져다 주는 무한한 혜택 속에서 살아왔다. 그러나 언제부터인가 자신들을 ‘만물의 영장’ 이라 칭하면서부터 지구상의 모든 생명체들을 그들의 지배하에 놓으려 했다. 인간들은 지나친 이기심과 오만함으로 다른 생물체들의 생활방식을 침해하고 정복해왔다. 하지만 인간 역시 자연의 일부분에 지나지 않으며 자연의 법칙을 존중하며 그 섭리에 맞추어 살아가야 하는 존재이다.
본 연구는 인간의 이기심에 의해 무참히 파괴되고 있는 자연생태계의 심각성을 우리 주위에서 쉽게 접하고 찾아볼 수 있는 곤충이라는 소재를 통해 보다 많은 사람들에게 알리고자 한다. 그리고 그 해결방향에 대해서도 한 번 생각해 볼 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 이번 작업을 진행하게 되었다.
우선 알에서 애벌레, 번데기, 성충으로 이어지는 곤충의 성장과정에서 각 단계별로 나타나는 고유의 특징에 변화를 주고자 하였다. 기물의 형태를 과장되게 확대시키거나, 흙 이외의 소재로써 금속을 기물에 접목시켜 기존의 곤충이 가지고 있는 친근한 느낌이 아닌 삭막하고 음산한 기운을 강조하였다. 또한 불의 세기에 의한 유약 발색의 변화와 여러 가지 안료를 통해 다양한 색감을 표현하였다.
자연의 질서 속에서 조화를 이루며 살아가는 곤충의 성장과정을 도예라는 작업을 통해 조형적인 측면에서 새로운 형식의 변화를 시도해 보고자 하였다. 그리고 앞으로 이러한 작업을 발판으로 자연에서 얻은 소중한 생명의 진리를 한층 더 창조적인 조형 활동과 접목시키고 발전시켜 새로운 시각에서 도예작업을 해석해 보고자한다.

 

From old times, nature has given lots of meaning to people as an object of longing and curiousness. Human beings have lived in the infinite benefits of nature. But they don't recognize how much they are owing to the nature.
They think that man is the lord of all creation. And it made them control nature. Human beings invaded other living things with their arrogance and selfishness. However, human being is also a part of nature. We have to respect and obey the law of nature.
This study is focused on making people know the fact that nature is being destroyed by people. It is very important problem and we just can't sit as a spectator about this problem. Now, we have to think about this serious environmental pollution and find the solutions together before we regret.
First of all, I chose the image of insect as my subject matter. Insect is very familiar living thing we can see easily around us. And it is following the law of nature very faithfully.
I tried to give many various changes to the each stage of the growth of insect. I made my models much bigger and more exaggerated than the real insect. I also used other materials like metals and put them into the ceramics. These were all for emphasizing a dismal atmosphere which is caused by environmental pollution. I also tried to make differences with many kinds of paints and express the various changes of glaze by fire. In other words, I wanted to create a new modeling style from ceramic art.
Nature is the most important thing in our life and we can't live apart from the precious benefits which nature brings us. Therefore I will make use of this truth of nature for the creative molding activity. And I hope it will be operated as a new approaching to the ceramic art.
