  • In the human history of civilization, patterns have directly or indirectly influenced the development in great deal. Patterns are not only to used for communication but also the beginning of all forms of figurative art; fine art, sculpture, craft, caligraphy, and etc.
    The purpose of this thesis is to find the figurative feasibility of ceramics by incorporating such primitive patterns into mechanical shapes which can symbolize modern industrial society. In order to discuss about the art pieces with primitive patterns, the study has been focused on the definition, origination, and heritage of the patterns, especially on symbolic and decorative functions which have been applied to some pieces of art works.
    Brief abstract of the thesis is as followed;
    In the first chapter, by studying the concept, background and origination of patterns, and symbolical and decorative functions of those, the historical and figurative distinct features and their meanings were analyzed including the types and characteristics of primitive patterns in Cuba textiles, and African accessories and masks which are the major subjects of this work,
    The chapter 2 demonstrates how to mold and color the art pieces manifesting various subjects found in primitive patterns researched in the chapter 1 and it also talks about the plasticity.
    In the third chapter, the background and the meaning of making such art works are recognized and each shape, color and meaning of the pieces are described with the photos.
