In the human history of civilization, patterns have
directly or indirectly influenced the development in great deal. Patterns are
not only to used for communication but also the beginning of all forms of
figurative art; fine art, sculpture, craft, caligraphy, and etc.
The purpose
of this thesis is to find the figurative feasibility of ceramics by
incorporating such primitive patterns into mechanical shapes which can symbolize
modern industrial society. In order to discuss about the art pieces with
primitive patterns, the study has been focused on the definition, origination,
and heritage of the patterns, especially on symbolic and decorative functions
which have been applied to some pieces of art works.
Brief abstract of the
thesis is as followed;
In the first chapter, by studying the concept,
background and origination of patterns, and symbolical and decorative functions
of those, the historical and figurative distinct features and their meanings
were analyzed including the types and characteristics of primitive patterns in
Cuba textiles, and African accessories and masks which are the major subjects of
this work,
The chapter 2 demonstrates how to mold and color the art pieces
manifesting various subjects found in primitive patterns researched in the
chapter 1 and it also talks about the plasticity.
In the third chapter, the
background and the meaning of making such art works are recognized and each
shape, color and meaning of the pieces are described with the photos.
