Unlike the pattern of the past generation, rather than pursuing a single idea or
a system, post modernism inclusively accommodates and studies various phenomena
and plays the role of accepting culture and art with a broader significance. In
addition, it is a phenomenon that appears over a broad spectrum rather than
being confined to any particular domain. For example, in post modernism,
philosophical theories of Jacques Derrida (1930-2004) which of often referred to
as Deconstructionism or Deconstructive theory are included as well as cultural
theories of Yale School that applied deconstructionism in cultural studies. Also
included are the social theories and theories of history of Michel Paul Foucaul
(1926-1984). Post modernism that possesses such diverse characteristics began in
the late 1950?s as an opposition to modernism. The term post modernism became a
common term used by art critiques in the 1970?s and it was around this time
artists with post modernistic tendencies appeared in the art of ceramics. At
that time, pottery was lead by funk and super object artists, and style that
completely broke away from pottery of abstract __EXPRESSION__ism became distinct.
Following this period, with evolution of artists with various works in pottery,
artists who correspond to the post global age of today are formed. Such pottery
art can generally be categorize into pieces with cultural, political, and social
themes, works in the form of installation, formative pieces, and pieces with
emphasis on function. With interest in cultural and social events, they use
complex media and multi-dimensional forms, and possess detailed and precise
characteristics. They lead the modern pottery each with their own theme of
various cultures and content. In this study, with such circumstance as the
basis, the focus was placed on the project of this study through theories of
post modernism and deconstructionism. In discussing it, the concept, history,
and significance of post modernism is discussed with the artist of example, and
following, in order to approach the project of this study with higher precision,
concept, background, and characteristics of deconstructionism were evaluated.
First, in the introduction, through circumstances of time and beginning of
post modernism, what methodology of explanation for the project of this study
will be used was evaluated, and in the main body of the study, centering around
the origin of post modernism that was introduced as a trend and became an
inclusive phenomenon and on theories of ?Charles Jenckrs (1939 - ), its
evolution by decades (1960 ? 0980?s) were evaluated, the purpose and
characteristics of examples of deconstructionism studies were identified, and
through examples of pottery artists and pure artists, the influence on the
project of this study was examined. In the conclusion, post modernism and
deconstructionism is collectively referenced, and their relationship with the
project of this study was found.
